Former Nuclear submarine base, Valley of Death and Genoese fortress

Among the main sights of Balaklava are:
Nuclear Submarine Base - former military base which operated until 1993. The base was designed to survive a direct atomic impact. Now the water channel and tunnels are open to the public for guided tours.

Genoese fortress - remnant of medieval times, when Crimea was a part of the Great Silk Road from China.
Valley of Death - a famous battle occurred here near Balaklava on October,13 1854, where the Legendary Light Brigade died (later described in the poem Charge of the Light Brigade).
