Crimean peninsula is a small mountainous country on the South of Ukraine. Population is about 2.5 millions. In 1783 the Crimea became the part of Russia (Catherine the Great) and in 1954 it became the part of Ukraine (Khrushchev).
Crimea is linked to the mainland Ukraine by the Perekop Isthmus in the North and Arabatskaya Strelka.
International airport here is in Simferopol. There is another one near Sevastopol.
Crimean mountains are rather forested and not high (Highest peak is 1545 m. above sea level).
Most of the beaches on Azov sea coast, near Yevpatoria and somewhere to the North on the Black sea coast are sandy. The Southern Coast of Crimea (The Black sea coast) is mostly pebbled.
