Some facts about Lviv (Lvov):

Population: Lviv (or in Russian Lvov) has a population of almost 900 thousands inhabitants is the major city of Western Ukraine.

Location: Lviv is located in the Western part of Ukraine, in about 70km. from a Polish border and 150 km. from Carpathian mountains. The highest point of Lviv is 413 m. above sea level - "Vysokiy Zamok" (The High Castle), averages is about 290 m. and the lowest point is 245 m. above sea level.

Public transport system: highly developed and includes: electric trolley buses, trams, buses and minibuses (marshrutka is the common name in Ukraine for private minibuses).

Railway and airport: Many cities in Ukraine can be reached from a city's main train station. There are several trains going to Poland, good connection to Slovakia, Hungary... Lvov can be reached by air. The Lviv International airport is situated just in a few km. from the city center.

Climate and best time to visit: Lviv has a moderate continental climate. Average day temperature in July is +18 °C and -4 °C in January. The best time to visit city is late Spring, June and early Autumn.
